CHIEF METEOROLOGIST ERIC BRILL – EVENING UPDATE

Wednesday, March 03, 2021

Nice weather conditions will continue in Southern Idaho for Thursday and Friday, but a late cold front on Saturday will bring some changes to the weather beyond that.

Temperatures on Thursday will be about 5-10° above average all around Southern Idaho. Friday looks to be even warmer than that, as temperatures will likely climb into the lower 60s throughout the Magic Valley and Mini-Cassia Region. Chances are that this is going to be the warmest day that many towns and cities will see since that of November. Sunny to partly cloudy skies are expected within Southern Idaho for both Thursday and Friday. The wind will start to pick-up a little bit as Friday does continue along, and that will be the first indication of the cold front.

Breezy weather conditions will likely be in all areas south of Highway 20 on Saturday. Sustained winds on Saturday are expected to be in the 10-25 mph range, so while it will be breezy, it isn’t going to be over-the-top windy. Clouds will develop as Saturday continues onward, and some showers will be following close behind. These showers aren’t expected to be anything crazy, and the higher elevation locations will ultimately have the best chance of seeing precipitation. Since temperatures will at least start off rather warm, it is likely that the precipitation will start off as rain, and then transition over to snow. Naturally, the highest elevation locations will likely see all snow out of this, but those totals won’t be too great. Some of the snow/rain will linger into Sunday morning, but most of it should really be gone by 6 AM. Cooler temperatures, albeit near average, will follow this cold front.

Some breezy weather conditions are expected for early next week, and yet another cold front is expected to move through Southern Idaho late Monday into Tuesday. This will knock temperatures down another 5-10°, and also allow for a few more showers. For the time being, this second cold front looks to be more of a wind & temperature drop front over that of precipitation. Of course, it is still a handful of days away, and many things can and will change.

Continue to enjoy the nice weather over the next few days! It won’t be lasting too much longer, but you know that it will be warming back-up again rather soon!
